Terms of Sale
Last updated 30 July 2026.
These terms apply when you order a book from Garland Press, a sole trader business run by Tom Bennet, trading as Garland Press (garlandpress.com). Placing an order means you agree to them. They don't affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
What you're buying
A single cloth-bound, hardcover book, made up of the entries your contributors submit, designed and typeset by us, then printed and bound to order. Every book is one-off - it's produced from the content in your account at the point you send it for printing, so it's worth checking everything looks right before you pay.
Production starts once payment is confirmed and takes around a week from your final entry to a finished book, plus postal delivery time. We currently print and ship within the UK only.
Price and payment
The price is shown at checkout and covers the whole book - printing, binding and UK delivery, with no extra fees added later. Payment is taken up front through Stripe's own checkout page; we never see or store your card details. Your order is only confirmed, and only becomes a binding sale, once payment has gone through.
Changing your mind
Each book is made to your specification - your choice of cover, your contributors' words and photos - so once an order is placed and paid for, it can't be cancelled or refunded simply because you've changed your mind. This reflects the normal exemption for personalised goods under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Before you pay, there's no commitment - you can edit or delete anything in your book at any point up to checkout.
If something's wrong with your book
If your book arrives damaged, or there's a fault with the printing or binding, tell us at hello@garlandpress.com with a photo and we'll send a replacement or refund you, whichever makes most sense - this is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, not instead of them.
This covers faults in manufacturing and transit - it doesn't cover the content itself. We print what was submitted, so typos, a contributor's choice of words, or a photo someone else picked aren't something we can offer a refund or reprint for. If we made a mistake on our side (the wrong book sent, an address we mistyped), that's on us to put right.
Delivery
We ship to the UK address given at checkout. If a book doesn't arrive, let us know and we'll look into it with the courier; depending on what happened, we'll offer a replacement or a refund at our discretion.
Content you and your contributors submit
As the editor, you're responsible for the content that goes into your book - the words and photos your contributors submit, and for having their agreement to include them. We reserve the right to decline to print, or to remove, anything that's unlawful, infringes someone else's rights, or that we reasonably think puts us or someone else at risk.
Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. Beyond that, our liability to you for any one order is limited to the price you paid for it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time; the version in force when you place an order is the one that applies to it.
